Recently, the Peiping Machine Brewing 5000L brewery system was officially put into operation in a modern beer factory in Beijing. This project highlights high capacity, automation, and eco-friendly design, showcasing the entire brewing process from raw material handling to finished beer production with outstanding efficiency.
The system delivers a single-batch capacity of 5KL, with the ability to complete 6–8 batches per day.
Advanced Six-Vessel Brewhouse System
A major highlight of this 5000L brewery system is its state-of-the-art six-vessel brewhouse, which includes a cereal cooker, mash tun, lauter tun, wort holding tank, brew kettle, and whirlpool. Each vessel has been engineered for professional brewing, offering maximum flexibility, efficiency, and consistency:
Pre-Mash Tun – Enables full decoction mashing, essential for brewing traditional styles such as Czech Pilsner, enhancing malt flavor and body.
Mash Tun – Provides precise temperature control and multiple step mashing options, suitable for producing a wide variety of beer styles.
Lauter Tun – Features a robust false bottom and raking system for high wort clarity and efficient lautering.
Pre-Run Tank – Serves as a buffer tank to balance the brewing workflow, allowing parallel operations and improved brewhouse efficiency.
Brew Kettle – Equipped with advanced steam heating jackets, ensuring strong boiling intensity, hop utilization, and wort sterilization.
Whirlpool Tank – Enables rapid trub separation, resulting in clear wort and improved beer quality.
Compared with three-, four-, or even five-vessel configurations, the six-vessel brewhouse system allows simultaneous operations such as mashing, lautering, boiling, and whirlpooling. This significantly reduces downtime, increases production turnover, and ensures consistency—making it the preferred choice for large-scale craft beer production and premium breweries aiming for efficiency and flexibility.
Raw Material Handling and Energy Efficiency
In the raw material processing stage, a dual-mill crushing system is applied: barley malt is gently crushed to maintain husk integrity for smooth lautering, while wheat malt and adjuncts are finely milled for efficient gelatinization. Equipped with chain conveying devices and a dust removal system, the setup improves production efficiency while meeting industrial aesthetics and environmental requirements.
Fermentation and Utility Systems
The fermentation system features 5T, 10T, and 15T fermentation tanks, achieving an annual capacity of up to 10,000 tons. Supporting utilities include a 30T water tank and a 50P chiller, ensuring stable water supply and precise temperature control. Dual CIP cleaning systems and a Siemens PLC automatic control platform enable sterile and intelligent management throughout the brewing process. A centrifuge and flash pasteurization system further guarantee high clarity and consistent beer quality.
How Large Breweries Choose the Right Brewhouse System
For large-scale beer production, selecting the right mashing and brewhouse system is a critical decision that directly impacts efficiency, product quality, and long-term profitability. When breweries scale up, the requirements for flexibility, batch turnover, and consistency increase dramatically, making the choice of brewhouse configuration even more important.
- Three- or Four-Vessel Systems – These are often used in small to medium-sized breweries where batch frequency is limited, and investment budgets are tighter. They offer simplicity but less flexibility in parallel operations.
- Five-Vessel Systems – Provide greater efficiency by enabling overlapping steps, such as lautering and boiling, but may still limit production capacity for very large breweries.
- Six-Vessel Systems – The most advanced option for large-scale brewery equipment. By including a cereal cooker and a wort holding tank in addition to the standard mash tun, lauter tun, kettle, and whirlpool, the system allows multiple processes to run simultaneously. This minimizes downtime, maximizes throughput, and ensures higher consistency across large volumes of beer production.
When choosing a brewhouse system, large breweries should also consider:
- Beer Styles & Brewing Methods – For traditional beers like Czech Pilsner, a cereal cooker for decoction mashing is essential.
- Production Scale – Higher daily batch requirements (6–10 per day) call for six-vessel configurations to handle the load.
- Automation & Control – Integration with Siemens PLC systems or equivalent ensures precise control, reproducibility, and intelligent operation.
- Energy Recovery & Sustainability – Systems that recycle heat and optimize water use reduce operating costs and align with eco-friendly brewing practices.
By carefully evaluating these factors, breweries can select the most suitable brewhouse equipment that not only meets current production demands but also provides scalability for future growth.
